Xogen’s Capabilities

Can your product be used in harsh locations?

Yes, we offer two designs to accommodate varying site specific environmental conditions. Our skid-mounted module works well in an indoor environment keeping our equipment contained and out of the way of other equipment and processes in your plant. Our containerized system is a self-contained unit designed to be used outdoors in a variety of environments including remote locations and harsh climatic conditions.

Do you provide full-automated control/system?

Yes our system is fully automated through the use of the PLC. It can be monitored onsite through the HMI (Human-Machine-Interface) or remotely using a SCADA system. Read More

How do we know your treatment will work on our wastewater?

The Xogen System has a proven ability to treat a variety of contaminants. We offer free treatability tests which allows us to determine the technical specifications of treating your wastewater. A treatability test is conducted in our lab using a water sample from your site. Check out our free water testing process here.

Can the sea containers be stacked?

Yes, in the case of limited onsite space area, the containers can be stacked up to two containers vertically.

Do you require air permits to operate your facility?

It is not required in most cases. The system generates nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, and some carbon dioxide. The volume of the gas is not significant in most cases.

What are the operating parameters for the sea containers?

Our containerized treatment system maintains its own required operating conditions and therefore can be used in a variety of temperatures, weather and remote environments. Click here to learn more about our products.

Can your system be adjustable to low and high volume streams?

Yes. The system is based on modular treatment units. Additional treatment units can be added or removed to adjust for low and high stream volumes.

Electro-Oxidation

What is Electro-Oxidation?

Oxidization is the loss of electron(s) in one element, to create a gain of electrons in another thereby changing the chemical structure and properties of the original element (Oxidized iron becomes rust). The electro-oxidation process is an oxidation process which is driven by electricity. It is a process in which, by using electric current and specially designed electrodes, a controlled amount of electric current is passed through the polluted water to produce strong oxidizing compounds that are capable of breaking the pollutants down into non-polluting species.

How does Electro-Oxidation treat ammonia in wastewater?

Different from biological nitrification and denitrification process, the ammonia in wastewater is oxidized directly to nitrogen gas by the radicals generated by the electro-oxidation process.

What type of wastewater can be treated by Electro-Oxidation?

Electro-oxidation produces strong oxidizing radicals that can break down a variety of wastewater pollutants such as BOD/COD, Personal Care and Pharmaceutical Product (PCPP) and pathogens. It is particularly suitable for wastewaters with high ammonia concentration where conventional biological treatments either do not achieve the required results or are cost prohibitive. A typical example where electro-oxidation is the treatment of choice is landfill leachate water where very high concentrations of ammonia require treatment. In addition, centrate from an anaerobic digester at a sewage treatment plant with high ammonia concentration is an ideal candidate for treatment using electro-oxidation.

What is treatment performance of Electro-Oxidation?

Electro-oxidation processes unlike traditional treatment solutions can treat ammonia in minutes not hours.

My wastewater has over 1000 mg/L of ammonia, can Electro-Oxidation treat it?

Yes. There is no upper limit on the ammonia concentration. We have treated a variety of landfill leachate wastewater with very high ammonia concentrations and successfully reduced ammonia concentrations to non-detect levels.

What are the by-products of Electro-Oxidation? Is there any sludge produced?

This is the advantage of electro-oxidation process over conventional processes, no sludge to deal with. The process will produce gaseous by-products including inert Nitrogen, Hydrogen, and Oxygen.

Does temperature affect Electro-Oxidation?

Unlike conventional biological processes that see a large variability in performance from ambient or wastewater temperatures, performance of the electro-oxidation process is independent of temperature variations.

Treatability Testing

What is a treatability test?

A treatability test allows us to determine the technical specifications of treating your wastewater. A treatability test is conducted in our lab using a water sample from your site.

The treatability Test is as simple as 1,2,3:

  1. Request a Collection Kit
  2. Fill-up the cans provided in the kit and fill out the submittal form
  3. Our courier will return 2 days later to pick-up your samples and send them to our lab!

It’s that easy.  We’ll let you know once the lab receives the samples. The results will take two weeks from when we receive your sample and we’ll be in touch along the way.

How much water will you need for the treatability test?

We require 20 liters, or 5 gallons of water. Simple instructions are sent with the water collection kit.

How can I provide a sample for testing?

We make the treatability test simple for clients by sending you a water collection kit.

How will the sample will be tested?

Based on information collected on your specific process, we will design a test program to evaluate the treatability of your wastewater in our lab-scale electro-oxidation reactor. Before and after test samples are collected and target parameters are tested. We will develop a comprehensive report that summarizes the results and findings which will be sent to you electronically.

How long does it take for the treatability test?

Typically, a treatability test can be completed in 2 weeks after receiving the wastewater samples.

How much does it cost for treatability test?

Pilot Plants

What’s a pilot plant?

An Xogen Pilot Plant is a smaller electro-oxidation unit that can be installed on your site to refine the achievement of treatment objectives. A pilot plant allows us to optimize the treatment process based on site specific conditions as every circumstance is different and it allows us to ensure we have optimized the final cost quote.

Why do I need a pilot plant?

A pilot plant collects operation data in the field and provides feedback for analyzing the impact of the Xogen System onsite, such as operation cost and power consumption.

What is the size of the pilot plant?

The Xogen Pilot Plant is in 8’L x 8’W x 8’H.

How long does the pilot plant needs to run?

Typically, a two to three month pilot test will generate enough data for a reliable full scale design and final cost parameters.

Can the pilot run in the winter?

The Xogen Pilot Plant is designed for outdoor operation if the ambient temperature is not expected to fall below the freezing point. In locations where the temperature can fall below freezing, it is preferred that the pilot is installed indoors. If that is not a possibility a heater can be supplied for outdoor operations during colder months.

What do I need to provide onsite for the pilot plant?

The Xogen Pilot Plant requires paved ground or a level gravel pad, three phase electricity (208V, 60A), and access to fresh water.

What do I need to do to operate the pilot plant?

Nothing except periodic checks. We will take care of the installation and operation for the pilot plant and monitor the pilot plant remotely.

Have you run any pilot plants before?

Yes, we have run multiple pilots before. One such pilot was run at a landfill in NY that consistently reduced ammonia from 500 mg/L to 200 mg/L. Read more about the pilot here.

How much does it cost for the pilot plant?

We own the pilot plant and lease it out for pilot tests or may provide it at no cost if there is a commitment to use our system once the final OPEX numbers are proven to be at or lower than the treatment test cost estimate we have already provided you. Commercial System

What is your commercial system?

We supply two types of turnkey treatment systems. The containerized system is a fully contained system that is pre-engineered to reduce on-site costs of installation and commissioning and is suitable for outdoor environments. The skid-mounted treatment module is suitable for integration into an existing system. The 40’ flat-rack skid can be placed in indoor environments. Read more about our products here.

What is the footprint of the commercial system?

Our approach to plant design is highly modular. Containerized systems are provided in a 40’L x 8’W x 10’H container. Each unit is built based on site specific requirements for treatment (flow rate, degree of treatment required etc.) and multiple single units will be supplied to meet the treatment objectives.

What is the treatment capacity of the commercial system?

The treatment capacity varies case by case depending on treatment requirements and process specifications. Since the system is modular, we can customize it to fit a range of treatment capacity requirements . Please contact us for more information.

What utilities does the system need?

Each containerized unit needs 3 phase power (208Vac, 60 Hz) and fresh water.

Are there any pre-treatment requirements for the system?

The system has a pre-screen to remove particles larger than 1mm.

Does the system require a paved surface?

While a paved surface is preferred, a compact gravel surface is sufficient for setting the containers.

How much does a commercial system cost?
